Chicago band Flowtone will perform at CHIRP Night at the Whistler on Tuesday, December 5th. We caught up with guitarist/vocalist Nissim recently to ask a few questions…

So...What’s going on? Tell us about your current releases and/or upcoming shows (such as CHIRP Night at the Whistler!).

Well, we just released a new music video for our new single called 'Eats Me Alive'. That was a really fun time to film and we're really happy with how the song came out. Of course, we'll be playing at CHIRP Night at the Whistler on December 5th. Super excited for that!

How do you go about turning your thoughts, ideas, and feelings into sounds?

The music usually leads the process. By that I mean, a lot of times I'll sing gibberish just to map out a melody, then that informs phonetically which lyrics could fall into place. The song doesn't feel "complete" though until there's a full concept in place. That takes a while, a lot of long walks and pondering different ideas and how I should express them. There is a moment where it starts to make sense and the momentum of that helps me finish the song.

If your music was a kind of beer, ice cream, or coffee (take your pick), what would it taste like?

Have to go with ice cream. It would be handcrafted by Jeni's (my favorite ice cream spot) and would be entirely up to them (or her?) to amaze me.

Do you have any particular or unexpected influences? Are any other artists or bands catching your attention at the moment?

I don't know if this is unexpected but I've really been digging Hozier's newest album. So soulful, grounded, yet very polished and rich sounding. Maybe a bit more on the unexpected side, Mikaela Davis. She's a harpist and I'm a sucker for the uniqueness of her sound.

If you couldn’t make music or be involved with music, what would you be doing right now?

I would probably have finished engineering school and would be toiling away at some project in a garage or basement somewhere.

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever done in a basement?

Speaking of basements...haha. Let's just say it involved a lacrosse helmet and a not quite fully developed frontal lobe.

If you were someone’s life coach, what are the top 2 life lessons you’d teach them?

1. Don't get too distracted - it's way too easy to get off course when there's so much going on around you, next thing you know you're starting an online course on how to teach an online course about how to start a dropshipping business! 2. Don't get too caught up on the first lesson - maybe you're someone who is too focused and what you need to hear is "try something new", what do I know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Are there any stories or anecdotes you want to share but haven’t been asked the right question to do so? Or do you have anything you’d like to declare to the world? Feel free to share…

I would like to let the world know that my bandmate, Sean Perez injured his knee going down a slide made for children.
